A number of students at the Discovery Bay All-Age School in St Ann have expressed gratitude for a computer recently donated to the school.

"Sometimes when class is being taught, I have to wait. I hope the wait will be shorter now, " a grade-six student said.

Donavan Carter, an event promoter, donated the Acer computer to the school.

"It is my duty to give to the education system, especially now that computer literacy is the way forward. I think that it the least I could do," Carter told The Gleaner.

Meanwhile, the school's principal, June Clarke, said the computer would be useful.

"We are very thankful for this donation. All the students here, from grade one to nine, are given computer lessons," Clarke said.

Many of the students said the new Acer computer would help them to better access daily lessons.

"We are pleased to see that a new computer is in the computer room. We can learn more from the class now," Cosmo Henry, a student said.

The school was founded in the 1800s by the United Church and was relocated to its current site in 1962.

There are 20 teachers with responsibility for 546 students at the school.
