PROComm sponsors new house for needy family
PROComm's 'Party-With-A-Purpose' last Saturday in Mount Salus, rural St Andrew demon-strated that you can make a big difference in someone's life and still have an enjoyable time. Team members and colleagues gathered at the hilly site where the Food For The Poor house-building team had already laid the foundation to help them complete a house for Miss Sybil Morrison. Miss Morrison's roof had caved in a few months ago and she was given temporary shelter by church associates.
A cheque for $278,000 was presented to Food For The Poor's Spencer Reynolds by PROComm's Jean Lowrie-Chin and Hubie Chin to cover the cost of the one-bedroom unit.
Miss Morrison had a tragedy when her only daughter was shot dead after a home invasion in Franklyn Town in 2005. The following month, her mother died of grief, leaving her with grand-daughter Britanya to raise. Britanya is now 11 years old and preparing for GSAT exams.
more to be done
At the end of a day spiced with fun, laughter and great food, Miss Morrison's house was complete. Andrew Pairman of Anbell arrived with beautiful drapes and rods to decorate the home and promised her some cushions. Shirley Rodney, a Gleaner retiree, presented her with a house-warming gift. Other guests asked for her wishlist and will be sending well-needed items before Christmas.
