Poetry: Love

Published:Sunday | December 18, 2011 | 12:00 AM
Love

When I saw you with her

My heart was crushed

knowing that my body yearns for yours

My mind is telling me something else

Will I ever have a chance to touch you

Kiss you, feel your loving arms around me?

Well that's another story

I'll just stay in the shadows and in the dark

But let me ask you

Did you ever see my chocolate brown eyes looking at you?

I wish you did, then you would know how much

I love you.

Voting season

The season has been marred by the elected political arm

We listen to bells ringing but not by Santa's hand

Sounds of power and shower are all we hear but not for the

season of peace and goodwill

Green and orange are the colours of the year

Loud supporters exhibiting their political cheer

Who you voting for? Who you voting for? Who you voting for?

This is the new Christmas cheer.

The eyes within

I'm I really who I say I am

Or, am I just a pretender

Pretending to be someone else?

What am I to you? I am often confused

Feels like I'm the particles under your shoes

That you often use and abuse

I hate being used by you

Feels like I'm your personal doormat

That decorates your floor

Allow you to explore and release your germs in my pores

I hate the control you exert over my soul

But the thought of not having you close

Hearing you moan and groan when we are without clothes

And listening to honeyed words flowing from your mouth

Makes me lonely and cold

So, on I go, pretending to be your soulmate

Subject to your bitter-sweet lies

And cooked-up alibis

I feel sorry for me on the inside

Sometimes I cry, with the hope of hearing you reply

But my tears go unheard

You never say a word

And between all that

I must accept that, I'm just your dirty mat.

My Saturdays are special

Did you see the debate on Saturday night?

Excuse me

Are you asking me if I am single with nowhere to go on a cool, cool Saturday night?

When so many movies are out

You are asking me if I watched politicians run up dem mouth?

I find that line of questioning baseless, tasteless and vulgar

My Saturday nights are special

have you forgotten it's Christmas

the one time of year mosquitos take a break?

And you have the nerve fi come ask me bout debate?

At a time when breeze so cool, school de pon holiday, nothing to do but curl up wid you mate

please don't ask me bout any debate

My Saturdays are special

Me no have no time fi last lick politics, mi nuh in a it.

Election date

I heard the election date

Someone fly the gate

Politicians sitting on hot plate

Awaiting their fate at the polls

Green flags, orange flags

band wagonists

Motorcades and 'tutu trains'

Some say Shower

Others say Power

They love it

Bells are ringing

Some are singing

They pass me by the roadside

I heard the dogs bark

Noah is building an ark

Politicians scheming in the dark

Dreaming up the perfect TV advertisement

Playing on words

Messing with their opponents

Just to get the edge

Victim of the id

Refusing to lose

Falling asleep in his brand new shoes

He's ready to move

The alarm went off

Someone announced the election date.
