Letter - What about the Cash Plus victims

THE Editor, Sir:

Your article 'PwC selling Cash Plus hotel to recover fees' was very informative and I would like to extract some more from you. I have a few questions to pose to you, hoping you may be able to answer.

Who is overseeing the legal fees and remuneration of the lawyers and receiver? From all the articles I have read so far, it appears that the only persons recovering money have been these parties. I understand the process that legal fees are paid before other creditors, but can someone justify these payments without any tangible evidence of their efforts? The investors have yet to recover a penny from their dollar. Whose interest are these parties representing?

Why do you think that David Smith was able to have his day in court and Carlos Hill is still walking the streets freely? The legal system in Jamaica needs reformation that will allow swift justice in both criminal and civil cases.

Failure to recover the investment for these 'victims' can only be softened by the conviction of Carlos Hill.

I believe the available resources should be concentrated on prosecuting Carlos Hill in the same manner as Bernie Madoff.

Investors should accept the fact that they will never see a penny of their money and whatever was recovered will be fattening the lawyers' pockets.

The only justice I see from this tragedy is a long-term conviction of Mr Hill.
