WESTERN BUREAU:

The man implicated in the February 23, 2011, discovery of cocaine on a cruise ship will have his trial before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court in April.

Casey Jones, of Windsor Forest in Portland, is charged jointly with Ricardo Chin, a former employee of the cruise line, for possession of, dealing in, and attempting to import 28 pounds of cocaine.

When the matter was mentioned on Monday, Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris scheduled the trial to begin on April 23.

During the previous court hearing, the investigating officer was instructed to get an outstanding statement from the ship's security officer following a court hearing on February 8. The prosecution is expected to call on four witnesses to give testimony against the accused.

Allegations are that on February 26, 2011, Chin was arrested in connection with the cocaine aboard a vessel at the Montego Bay Cruise Ship Terminal. Jones subsequently turned himself over to the police in the presence of his lawyer.

The drug was found packaged and hidden inside bathing suits in one of the ship's cabins and was discovered during a search.
