Talawah reports steady sales
MONTEGO BAY, St. James:With the high cost of goods since the levy of new taxes, supermarkets in western Jamaica are reporting that the newest alcoholic beverage, Talawah Lager Beer, is holding its own among customers.
According to Donna Graham of Bonafide Liquors in Montego Bay, the affordability and low levels of alcohol in the beer are among the reasons customers are finding favour with the $100 beverage.
"I have to admit, it is really doing well. The customers love it. It is cheaper and doesn't have a lot of alcohol in it. But, more importantly, it is cheap, so it is definitely a favourite for them."
Graham informed that she sells at least 10 to 15 cases each week - an encouraging sign that they will continue to stock the beverage.
Talawah, launched over two months ago, is a four per cent alcohol by volume (ABV) lager and offers a smooth taste.
Patrick Chow of Chow's Cash and Carry Supermarket believes that the price has driven demand for the product, something with which he is comfortable as the stock is moving steadily off the shelves.
"Our Talawah sales are good, so it is definitely a hit in the market. We are happy and they (customers) are happy."
Talawah's label design includes the national colours and a picture of Jamaica, celebrating the people and the milestone of 50 years of Independence for the country.
