JHTA's Montego Bay chapter to celebrate fine local cuisine
MONTEGO BAY, St James:
The Montego Bay Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) will stage its fourth annual fund-raising event, 'A Celebration of Fine Jamaica Cuisines', today at the Rose Hall Great House.
It is a food and wine event pairing gastronomy and cuisine which includes Jamaican organic and road food, Thai, jerk, pasta, and Spanish paella (a seafood dish), topped off by warm Jamaican treats in an exquisite atmosphere.
As part of its civic responsibilities, the JHTA Montego Bay organisation helps such as the Save the Boys Street Programme, where one boy has been removed from the streets, is being schooled, and is given a monthly stipend for food.
House No. 10 at the SOS Children's Village in Barrett Town, St James, has been adopted by the organisation and maintenance work is carried out to ensure the upkeep of the building. Additionally, treats are held throughout the year for the children.
"This year, the organisation has taken on additional responsibility in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Providence to re-roof and restore the Tower Hill Basic School in St James.
"The organisation went further to ensure that the school benefited from the Berger Paint colour competition in having its members and other supporters voting consistently on Facebook to be listed in the top 14 for a painting job," said JHTA Montego Bay chair, Omar Robinson.
"We expect a good turnout based on previous years, and patrons will continue to enjoy wine and dining in fine style - another Jamaica 50 celebration."
Sponsors for the fund-raising event include The Rose Hall Great House, Half Moon Resort, Hilton Rose Hall, Ritz-Carlton Rose Hall, RIU, Sandals, Coyaba Beach Resort, Sunset Beach Resort, Round Hill, Caribbean Producers Jamaica, and Red Stripe.
