FALMOUTH, Trelawny:Cornwall Street in Falmouth, Trelawny, which became a major thoroughfare after several traffic-management changes were made to the town to facilitate the cruise-shipping business, is earmarked for rehabilitation.

Mayor of Falmouth Garth Wilkinson said a contract of $70 million has been granted for the scope of work that was intended to begin in mid-August.

He said the project will see to the resurfacing of the roadway, and the drains that run across the street will be placed underground.

Wilkinson also noted that some of the side streets will also benefit when Cornwall Street is being fixed as these roads will also be repaired.

Residents and motorists have welcomed the announcement, but there is some apprehension about the possibility of speeding once the road is fixed. They want a greater police presence along the road, with some calling for the installation of road traffic cameras.
