The Latin American Women's Club held its final fund-raising party for 2012 at the Colombian ambassador's residence in St Andrew last Wednesday. It proved to be a night filled with Latin culture, music, food, and drinks. Diplomats, Latin American expatriates, and Jamaicans all supported the event. The proceeds go towards Jamaican charities.

Among the foundations supported by the Latin American Women's Club are the St Patrick's Foundation, Missionaries of the Poor, SOS Children's Village Village and various other groups.

Cartagena Caribe Big Band, a Colombian group, played Latin American rhythms such as cumbia, meringue and salsa, which entertained the crowd the entire night. Singer Anita Vergara performed many popular songs, which kept the dance floor buzzing with activity. The food was exquisite and was prepared entirely by members of the club. A special drink, 'Orchata', a Mexican coconut drink, proved a hit amongst the guests.

The Latin American Women's Club has been cooperating with Jamaican institutions for more than 40 years; the group also promotes awareness of Latin culture in Jamaica.
