WESTERN BUREAU:
Exclusive Holiday's Fred Smith had a flight to catch to Florida; Adam Stewart could easily have jetted off to The Bahamas; Everton Anderson worked out of Montego Bay, instead of Kingston; and the busy ear, nose and throat specialist, Dr Barbara Grandison gave up hours from her office.
What do these four have in common? They are members of the University of the West Indies, Mona, Western Jamaica Campus (WJC), Ambassadorial Corp. With their new positions, they were committed not to miss their first meeting after being 'ordained' advocates of the western campus a month ago.
The four, their Hanover convener, Hope Markes, governor elect of the Eastern Canada and Caribbean district for Kiwanis International and their colleagues from Westmoreland and St Elizabeth, were feted and welcomed officially to the university family by pro vice chancellor and principal, Professor Gordon Shirley and campus registrar, Dr Camille Bell-Hutchinson at a luncheon hosted by Sandals Montego Bay, Wednesday afternoon.
Already, some of the members have aggressively embarked on programmes aimed at integrating the university into the western Jamaica community, while building awareness of the offerings at the institution.
The other ambassadors who have signed on for the UWI-WJC Ambassadorial Corps - a CARIMAC Communication Analysis and Planning project - are Howard Ward, Father Hartley Perrin, Heather Murray, Yoni Epstein, Omar Robinson, Ernie Grant and Mark Hart.
