The Liguanea Lodge has for more than 20 years staged an annual Art Auction and Wine & Cheese Party as part of their charitable efforts to provide scholarships and other support to high school and tertiary-level students, residents of children's homes, medical equipment to hospitals, and similar charitable ventures.

This year, the event will take place at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on May 16, starting at 7 p.m. A 2013 edition of the Art Auction Catalogue will be published, and while it was originally developed exclusively for the fine arts-loving community, the catalogue has now spread beyond this group, and earned a nicely displayed position in the homes of many Jamaicans here and in the diaspora.

The elegantly designed 8.5" x 11" self-covered, 65-page, semi-gloss magazine and catalogue will be produced exclusively by the Liguanea Lodge, with an initial run of 500 copies printed locally.

The catalogue, as usual, showcases one of the most comprehensive selections of visual arts pieces available in any local magazine. It covers all facets of art and is presented in an easy-to-view format incorporating features on participating artists, with the objective of providing readers and viewers with an opportunity to learn more about the visual arts artists.

"We, the members of the Liguanea Lodge, started with the simple mission: the idea of doing something that would benefit those who participate and that we would enjoy doing while raising funds for charity as our main objective," said Patrick Gillings, chairman of the Liguanea Lodge Art Auction.

ORIGINAL PIECES ON SHOW

Scheduled for The Pegasus' leisurely Talk of the Town Restaurant, this event will boast original art in a variety of media, elegantly prepared for sale in a uniquely creative setting. The auction will feature original works - a showcase of participating artists who work in a variety of media and artist student project - a contemporary artist-in-residence programme highlighted by the unique work of one or more students.

The Liguanea Lodge Art Auction and Wine & Cheese Party has, over the years, provided art collectors and connoisseurs with an exquisite collection of distinguished works by prominent artists including George Rodney, Seya Paboorsingh, Christopher Gonzales, Carl Abrahams, Susan Alexander, Paul Blackwood, and Cecil Cooper, to name a few.

This live auction will offer approximately 100 pieces of mainly fine art along with their highly appreciated premier wine tasting with complimentary cheeses and hors d'oeuvres throughout the event.
