Saluting our nation's teachers

In a 1675 letter, the revered scientist Isaac Newton stated, "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." As we currently do, other generations have stood on the shoulders of the 'giants' of our system - our teachers. It is, therefore, important that we take every opportunity to show our appreciation to these professionals who have made a significant impact on all our lives.

The Gleaner Company has the support of our education system and its contributors as one of its primary social development objectives. It achieves this goal through a number of activities and programmes each year, including its salute to teachers during Child Month. The Gleaner Company's representatives, led by its managing director, again visited several schools across the island to demonstrate its support of the work of teachers everywhere.

Its focus in 2013 was on teachers in schools within the special education system. This often forgotten group provides a very valuable service by empowering children with special needs from across the island. We share here some of the special moments:
