WESTERN BUREAU:

The skies opened and rejoiced thunderously, threatening to derail plans for the Busha/St James Police Civic Committee (StJPCC) 'last lick' 2013 'All You Can Eat Crabfest'.

While it rained heavily, the entire island was plunged into darkness as a result of an electrical outage!

But nothing had the power to stop the crab lovers who turned out in their numbers for the annual crabfest at the Sand Bar Restaurant, Doctor's Cave Beach, in Montego Bay last Saturday night.

main attraction

This year, the attraction was not only Jackie Williams' curried, garlic and peppered crab. Newcomer to the MoBay scene, Busha Clarke of Westmoreland, renowned for his crab feasts, partnered with the organisers to assist various charities. And André Dixon, chairman of the fundraising committee had added jerked and barbecued chicken, corn on the cob, salad and rolls to what was already an excitingly rich menu.

Margaritaville Caribbean provided the expertise through their executive chef, Cecil Jagdath, and Sand Bar's Maksym Losyev kept the juice flowing.

The man known for the goodies, Dr Lee Bailey, chairman of the committee, not only brought a handful of prizes from Bijoux and Tropicana Jewellers, but he also offered a cruise on his 'prized' boat as a gate prize.

Money raised from the annual event is used to fund social programmes being undertaken by the StJPCC to assist some of the men and women serving the force in St James.

Entertainment was provided by Fitzroy Minott and the Hard Drive Band, which has had guests returning to the Blue Beat Jazz and Martini Bar since 2004, with an eclectic mix of jazz and reggae.

The StJPCC was formed three years ago to promote positive relations between the police and the civilian population they are sworn to serve.
