WESTMORELAND:A Westmoreland man who was charged with the offence of utterance of counterfeit notes pleaded not guilty when he appeared in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Thelford Green is accused of uttering counterfeit notes in the resort town of Negril in Westmoreland. The notes were subsequently sent to the government forensic lab for testing. The results confirmed that the notes were counterfeit.

In his defence, Green said that the money was not his, but belonged to a jerk chicken vendor from the Negril area.

The Negril police have reported that they have not had any success finding the jerk chicken vendor and that he has since relocated to an unknown location. Green also told the court that the vendor had since been spotted selling in the vicinity of the Jungle Nightclub in Negril.

The police were advised to put a warrant out for the jerk chicken man. The matter is set to be heard by the court again on August 13.
