WESTERN BUREAU:The second elimination exercise of the CB Pan chicken competition was held at Dump-Up Beach in Montego Bay last Saturday.

The event was the second of three to be held across the island and was preceded by the central elimination, which was held in Manchester in June. On Saturday, five parishes - Hanover, Westmoreland, Trelawny, St James, and St Ann - were represented. A total of 25 competitors participated, with two from each parish moving on to the grand finals to be held in November.

judged on taste

The competition was open to pan chicken vendors. They were judged on the taste, and to a lesser extent, the presentation of their dishes.

Wendel Gayle of Hanover won for his parish, while Donald Smith was the runner-up. Annette Holt and Eanon Anderson of Westmoreland received the winner and runner-up prizes for Westmoreland, respectively. Tyrone Kenton was the big winner for the parish of Trelawny, with Lionel Lewis his runner-up.

For the parish of St Ann, Clarence Watson emerged the winner, while Damion Bailey came second. Lisa Louden and Patrick Maxwell of St James were the first, and second-place winners for their parish, respectively.

The national finals of the competition will be held on Sunday, November 24.

"The winners and runners-up will advance to the finals. The all-island champion will win a trophy and benefit from branding as Pan Chicken Champion for 2013 and will win over $500,000 in cash and prizes," Alicia Bogues, brand manager of CB Chicken and Bad Dawg Sausages, said.
