A delicious affair

It was an Editors' Forum with a difference. An intimate group of food and wine enthusiasts - executive chefs, members of the hospitality industry, Jamaica Promotions, the Jamaica Public Service Company, Pier One, Caribbean Producers Jamaica (CPJ), and Margaritaville - gathered at Mystic India in Whitter Village, Montego Bay, for The Gleaner's Food Month Editors' Forum yesterday.
A prelude to Food Month in November, the setting was perfect.
Mystic India's Kareena Mahbubani said it was her pleasure to host the luncheon, and over delectable Indian fare, the discussion became as spicy as the spread.
The relationship between Jamaican food and our tourism sector was the first topic to take centre stage. But that quickly switched to the issue of health, and the increase in lifestyle diseases directly related to our diets.
It was agreed by all that healthier foods should be incorporated into our diets, and healthy food preparation also needed to play a major role in small restaurants and large hotels.
Restaurant Week Ambassador Antoinette Chen spoke about the importance of good food and wine in producing high-quality dining experiences for consumers.
Food pairing with the respective fine wines was also highlighted, courtesy of CPJ. The successful luncheon came to a close with many requesting another in the very near future.
