Hottest topics on the cocktail circuit

Politicians spending big

1.  Only in Jamaica: One politician builds his wife a kitchen valued at $7 million; another and his family take a vacation valued at $10 million; another builds a house for $120 million; and yet another is building one with a projected cost of $250 million.

Creative living

2. As hard times set in, more and more people are finding creative solutions to survive. One family recently sent a motor vehicle to the relatives in the country with instructions to repaint it and not drive it, then reported it stolen. The insurance company duly honoured the claim, but when one of the country cousins started driving the vehicle around, fear of being found out caused the vehicle to go up in flames!

'Homeless' but paying

3. Some say they do not understand, some say they do. But for many, the case of the 'homeless' official who pays upwards of US$30,000 per semester in overseas school fees is causing many to wonder.

He's all smoke!

4.  Story among his batchmates was that he was adjudged 'least likely to succeed'. Now, he's considered the toast of the town. Some say, however, closer inspection will reveal he's all smoke and no fire!

Oversized ego

5. Remember the brouhaha? Well, the inside story is that he wanted just about J$300 million from the Jamaican Government to support the event, and the petulant behaviour and accusations came about after he was told the country could not afford such an expenditure! Unnu ever see me trial? Talk about an oversized ego!

Getting ready

6. It's called a contingency, but not all are planning to remain on the Rock if things do not go according to plan. Friends say the Miami homes are being spruced up, just in case.
