POEM OF THE WEEK

With your love and kisses and ... I'll take the Flack

It was a grey day

felt like everything

was leaving me

weaning my insides dying

then I heard her

She revived my intestines

reorganised my colon

my fears allayed

surround sound

"Roberta Flack"

my, my, my, what music

I'll take the Flack

"... strumming my pain with my fingers ..."

"... the first time ever I saw your face ..."

I was breathing again

Fresh air

Felt like I was in heaven

Glad

But glad it is heaven on this earth

"... your face, your face ..."

You, my love ...

... yes, "the first time: you kissed me

Every part of me smiled

I want to turn the other cheek

You have put joy in every hidden place

Happiness in every broken place

You enable me to take the Flack ...

You cupped my face like rare china

"The first time" I kissed you

I didn't know someone could taste so delicious

Never had this flavour ice cream cone before...

you are God's perfect creation

you are "fearfully and wonderfully made... "

all I can say is "WOW"

you didn't mind make-up and lipstick on your white collar ...

In love

Your eyes meet and you see stars,

Gently escaping heavenward

He speaks, and she sees sapphires

She whispers, and it's tender poetry

Fluttering like drunken butterflies

It's love, like the rainbows surrounding clouds

Of brightness

It's love, like the distant pulse of midnight stars -

Like hope enrolled in airiness

She sighs, and airy wantonness abides -

Like casts of fragile dreams over smiling cheeks

Like the silent moon in curling radiance

It's love, as boundless as the

deep rejoicing

Blue,

As fearless as the curling waves towards the

Open skies,

Like passion, fanning passion fanning

Wings -

Bones of one bone,

Breaking up on stony ground.

- Homer Sylvester

Salt-and-pepper hair

Looking so distinguished and refined

He always makes me smile

I blush whenever he's near

It's his salt-and-pepper hair

True to himself

He's all natural, no dye

Silky and smooth, to be fair

It's his salt-and-pepper hair

My preference is clear

It gets my attention every time

No matter the day, month or year

I admire a man's salt-and-pepper hair

The Messenger

A tribute to Robert (Bob) Nesta Marley

Our forefathers came in ships from afar

With a music of their own

With the beat of drums sounding in their ears

Enmeshed is every bone

And some sent forth their message

While many a tear did flow

As they wondered how they could be free

How to liberate their souls

We teach and record in history

Of messengers gone before

Their deeds and words of courage

Legacies we adore

We sometimes call them heroes

But the homage that we pay

Is touched with regret that while they lived

No honour passed their way

Our joy was great in the eighties

Fate gave us another chance

When a messenger was sent from Jah

With the music and the dance

The drums did beat and the Wailers sang

As their leader called all men

As their message strong in unity, hope, love and

Freedom rang

That man sent forth his message

With a hope we would be bold

And strive to learn the simple truth

How to liberate the soul

That messenger has also passed

Through the gates of the great beyond

But he knew of the honour we gave him

While he tarried in this land

Hear that message - note its meaning

It may never come again

Freedom, everlasting freedom

Only comes from deep within

So let guitar and drum strains linger

Let this truth live on and on

Let the hills and valleys rumble

As we pass this message on

To our children, children's children

From the messenger who knew

That man's only key to freedom

Is to liberate his soul

Temptation ...

Temptation ...

... smiles sweetly

... strokes the palm gently

... hugs warmly

... kisses slowly

... penetrates deeply

Then leaves you to suffer ALL alone ...

- C. Cunningham Brooks

Love

What can we say about love

Except it came from up above

Love is not about a kiss or a hug

Nor to cuddle or to snug

It is not about your husband nor wife

Neither money nor life

So what then is love

Is it something?

Some say it is nothing

They are wrong; you know

Love is everything

- Nicholas Goode

My valentine

We've shared what seems like an eternity of friendship, tears, disappointments, accomplishments and a tiny creation that's an emblem of us both.

The journey has been long and tedious, yet glorifying.

We have declared to the Divine and mankind the bond that will tie us through sickness and health, weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow.

Disagreements will follow, the experience of others we may have to borrow but we communicate that's like bread and butter on our plate.

We are each other's valentine, assured our love will last far beyond our lifetime.

As this precious gift will

Intoxicate even the hands of those we shake.

While others did speculate, our time was spent praying for the Divine to formulate and consecrate, the love our little creation will someday emulate.

I will not brag of perfection, rather of a partnership of true and desirable satisfaction.

We are each other's valentine!

I am without question his and he is for a lifetime mine.

- Shernette Bartley

This time

We both have before loved but this time it just feels right

Being the first person I see in the mornings and the last person I see at night

I may not always say this, but you are indeed special to me

The man that makes you happy is who I always and forever vow to be

It gives the greatest delight to hold your hands and stare into your soft, gentle and caring eyes

'I will always love you' is what my heart each time cries

This time will be different; we can forge a whole new path and embark on a brand new day

Having expressed all that there's just one thing left to say

the following words are simple but their profundity is very true

Shermane Wisdom, I'm in Love With YOU!

This time let us not promise each other that come what may,

Our love is what will always bind us

That we will always be true and never alter if and when alteration finds us

- Jaipaul Powell

The follower

In love with you from the start

You have my whole heart, not a part

The love is written in my eyes, can't you tell?

I was the one who said it first, ring a bell?

My fantasies about you never cease

Ask me out on a date, would you please?

In your world I don't exist

My very love you resist

But like a fool, I persist

To be with you is a rat race

My biological clock is in haste

So will you be with me? What's the verdict for this case?

'Help me let it go!' I pray

'I don't want to love him anymore' are words I say

Is embarrassment the price I must pay?

Or must I endure the pain of having my heart in dismay

It is no use; my heart has already been labelled 'decay'

You like the chase, you know it's true

I am not worthy of your attention, that's your point of view

You are a 'chick magnet', they stick to you like glue

Your actions say 'I don't love you get a clue!'

Just because you know my heart is trailing after you.

- Shana Lynch

It's you

Electrified

Beholding you

Shivers spiral up my spine

Surging blood

Warm heart

Wildly thumping

A vortex of desire swells

Making enlarged veins

"Bewebbed"

Pulsing matrix of neurons in my head

Butterflies

Making lilac lilies of my defences

Yearning to free us

I would sing for you

If with singing

I could woo you

My belly aching

Standing

Waiting

It's a coo

A craving

Calling

Only for you.

- Andrew Brodber

My aching heart!

My heart is aching

It needs your comfort

Your soothing mind

Your captivating spirit

Your aromatic intelligence

It is so painful to think

My body stretches and yearns for you

It aches for sexual healing

From your muscularly soft hand.

The warmth of your slender, yet strong form

Draws me in

Fulfilling my desires for sexual ecstacy

But my heart and my body are inseparable

They are intertwined

My body may be fulfilled

But my heart longs for climax

My heart aches

My body is satisfied but ...

I must carry my heart with me

My heart is my body

My all desires you.

- VT

For me only

To me, he is true love

No boundaries because I trust him

No jealousy because I know and understand him

Tears as I can't imagine life without him.

Laughter his presence brings me joy

His kisses and hugs are like frosting, a sweet flavouring

All the rewards he brings, I have to work hard because I'm keeping him!

Precious moments only with him I share

Safety, of me he takes great care

Disagreements no doubt, it's one ingredient love won't do without

Handsome, intelligent and committed, other girls he has omitted

In writing these are just something's, in life he means everything!
