WESTERN BUREAU:

Weeks ahead of the inaugural Flow MoBay City Run, the organising committee hosted more than 100 members of the business community at its signature Pasta and Wine Party, at the Blue Beat Ultra Lounge in Montego Bay, on Tuesday night.

Sponsored by Caribbean Producers Jamaica (CPJ), which provided the wines, and Margaritaville Caribbean, whose chef laid out the red carpet pasta-style, the evening's highlight included the announcement of new sponsor, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), cutting of a birthday cake baked by renowned pastry chef, Alicia Woodbine, and an unprecedented donation to the cause by Scotiabank's Michael Shaw.

Birthday celebrations were shared by Mayor of Montego Bay Glendon Harris, general manager of the Montego Bay Convention Centre, Dittie Guise, and director at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Western Jamaica Campus, Dr Luz Longsworth, who were serenaded by the indomitable saxophonist, Fitzroy 'Saxie' Minott.

Wine selections

CPJ paired three of their most delectable wines with Blue Beat's chicken penne pasta, tossed with Bailey's coconut Alfredo; shrimp moderne tossed with shellfish fume; vegetable penne marinara; jerk chicken tossed with penne pasta, finished with mango reduction and jerked meat balls. The wines of choice were the sociable and spirited Bel Arbor red and white, along with the fruity, luscious and seductive Riunite Trebbiano Moscato from Italy. All three complemented the mood of the evening, which was viewed as a celebration of health and wellness, while raising funds for tertiary education. Funds from the event will benefit students in need at UWI Western Campus, Montego Bay Community College, Sam Sharpe Teacher's College, and the University of Technology Western Campus.

More than 1,050 runners and walkers have registered for the 10K/5K run and walk, set for Sunday, May 18, at the Old Hospital Park in the tourism capital.

The largest teams to date are RIU Resorts, 220 participants and Scotiabank, 150.

Sponsors of the Flow MoBay City Run includes Wata, Powerade, Courts, The Gleaner, Power 106FM, National Outdoor Advertising (NOA) and Medical Response.
