POEM OF THE WEEK
Tribute to Mother
Oh Mom, I wish I told you long ago
How much you mean to me
But I didn't really understand
Until I became a mom you see
Now I know how much you did
And what you gave up for me
Your freedom, your time, your comfort
And all of your childhood dreams
For I became the main reason
You struggled on each day
No matter how you felt
Or what may come your way
Through hard work or play
Whatever the day,
Your goal and focus never sways
My comfort, my well-being, my daily bread
And somewhere always to lay my head
A good father you chose for me
To help you with my care
Although I know, you would carry on
Even if he wasn't there
Now I am grown
I want to give you
All the honour and thanks you deserve
For you have given me
Your time, your youth, your care
And your love
I love you, mom!
- Mandege
She played the role of Mom & Dad
You carried me for nine months and still counting
You played the role of Mom and Dad and still going
Mother, you are always there when I am in need
You are more than a mother, you are a friend indeed
Thank you mother for waiting with me for nine months and zero days
You mother surely deserve all my praise
Thank you mother for being there to see my first grin
Thank you mother for being there through thick and thin
Thank you mother for showing the real strength of a woman
In growing up a son to be an exceptional gentleman
Thank you mother for playing the roles
You encourage and believed in me to achieve all my goals
For my mother, I sure do love you...

Mother Bears
For my Mother, Rowena Alicia Wilkinson
A Mother bears all things
that is her nature, Love
hovering in her huge frame
rarely leaving her habitat
smashed after Midwife's Day, Teacher's Day
Mother straddles the cross,
International Nurse's day follows ...
Acting all the roles
washing everything without water
she tries to live up to the reputation of a false, fictitious, fairytale friendship with Goldilocks
However, to keep the film set going she smiles
though inwardly cringing each time Goldilocks dips in to the bowl of porridge
.... take after take ...
"Boxing bread out of her pickney mouth"
Mother Bear wonders why
human beings cannot provide good nutrition for their own
bear cubs do not behave like human beings when they are hungry
If Mother Bear mistakenly grunts, growls, snorts, she immediately apologises to the director
blaming the sound on her draining sinuses
she continues her camera appearance
not wanting to be at the end of the hunter's bullet
seemingly oblivious to wasps and eats Honey
This Mother Bear is non-alcoholic no...beer, here
But do not be beguiled by her simple moping face
her very presence is intimidating
particularly in the absence of a Papa Bear
human beings have used the psychology of taming her with terms, "Teddy", "Cuddly" etc.
Human beings don't like the surprises Mama Bears are wont to give
Mama Bear is not comfortable tea company
no matter how well dressed she is, hat and all
At her station
At the zoo
They hurl tantrums
Mother Bear will only parade on all four paws praying
bearing her soul
Mother Bear never spouts her credentials
As all people will say is "How big her teeth !"
She knows her cubs
are barely protected by "Acts", easily handcuffed, dragged in like common thief
so she does not stand like humans on two, humans know it is a war position
they try to scare Mother Bear
but Mother Bear persists,
sniffs out the haunts of her cubs
noting the potential predators
at school graduations you will soon see these Mother Bears
wearing "bare" skin
"they" have worked hard for the occasion
You could say: "dressed to kill"
human beings could then administer
judicious fear
handle Mother bear with tactile care
for the Mother you see is really a Bear!

Tribute to Mother
O Mother dear we think of you
Today and yesterday
Your toil, your kindness and your strength
Helped us from going astray
It was the way our thoughts you shared
It was your love that showed you cared
O Mother dear - O Mother dear
We love you
O Mother dear, O such a friend
Now and in times of need
Your guidance and your watchfulness
Helped us to sow good seed
With loving and a tender heart
With fervent prayer you gave the start
O Mother dear - O Mother dear
We love you
O Mother dear, our lives begun
With you the foundation
God's gift was yours, God's gift was ours
All by His wondrous plan
Tho' here or there, for you we'll raise
Our songs of praise throughout our days
O Mother dear - O Mother dear
We love you
O Mother dear, O child of God
Our thoughts of constant love
Engulfs our being and satisfies
Our hope to heaven above
With Christian walk from day to day
And footsteps sure through Christ the way
O Mother dear - O Mother dear
We love you

My Mother, My Friend
Oh sweet Mom, you motivate instead of demotivate,
You regulate instead of relegate
You are resourceful, can turn a cent into a dollar,
You set good examples for others to follow.
A good mother who executes well your motherly role,
An expert at what you do, even when you go easy
You are still in control.
You know how to react in any situation
And you replace anger with love and affection,
For although you instill discipline and try
to set things aright
This is done with great tact, no rancour
or spite.
As a good mother, you admit and apologise
If a mistake you have made,
You master the art of parenting,
you are an expert in trade.
Mother helps me to climb the mountain
when the summit seems high,
You have been there for my laughter,
You have been there for my cry.
You have been there when I am on land
or in the waters deep,
You have been there when I sow,
You have been there when I reap.
You give me great warmth when
The cold wind would blow
You are the warmth in the winter that
gives me the glow
I can now differentiate between the right from the wrong
for your wise advise and suggestions
help to guide me along.
You encourage, show loyalty and appropriately defend,
My confidant, my super hero, my role model, my friend.
You are firm as a rock, yet gentle as a dove,
You have immersed me in happiness
And baptised me in love
So from the bottom of my heart I join the rest of the world to say
May you have a blessed and Happy Mother's Day.
