Chairperson of the Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA), Dr. Elizabeth Ward is calling for greater emphasis to be placed on addressing violent behaviour among youths.

Dr. Ward said government organisations often fail to address the problem of criminal behaviour in children from the early stages.

She said more programmes must be developed to deal with high risk youths, with potential and existing gang members.

According to Dr. Ward the signs of violent behaviour in children are in some cases ignored by parents and educators.

She also said most youths involved in criminal activities are educationally challenged.
