A 28 year old man, whose identity is being withheld by the police, has been jailed in connection to a United States lottery scam.

Reports are that he was jailed following the seizure of documents, including a copy of a US$10 million cheque that was being sent by courier services to an unsuspecting victim of the scam in the US.

Crime officer for the Area One Police, Superintendent Wilford Gayle, said indications are that the scam, which has its base in St. James, has spread to other parishes in Area One.

The police also said the lottery scam seems to be contributing to other crimes.

They are urging persons with information on the scam to speak with the police.

The crackdown on the lottery scam players intensified in December 2006.

The scam is reportedly facilitated through the unauthorised disclosure of information on Americans, who are conned out of large sums of money.
