Trouble at Jamaica House Basic School
Trouble is brewing at the Jamaica House Basic School in St. Andrew over the manner in which the institution is being administered.
Yesterday, angry parents walked out of a meeting chaired by a member of the school board after she insisted that the board would not meet with the entire parent body until certain conditions were met.
The parents of the Jamaica House Basic School have written to the board seeking answers to a series of concerns about the administration of the school.
They want to know for example why is it that four principals have been fired in five years, and why is it that the school has been without a principal for almost a month now.
Director of the Executive Committee of School Board, Rosalie Goodman has responded to the parents in writing.
She is insisting that her response is sufficient. But the parents are not satisfied. They are demanding that the board meets with the entire parent body.
At the moment, Mrs. Goodman is supervising a cluster of teachers performing the role of the principal at Jamaica House Basic.
However the parents are uncertain whether they are adequately qualified to carry out the function. This they claim is one of the concerns they want to put to the board.
