Eight persons were shot, four fatally in the troubled August Town community in St. Andrew during two separate incidents yesterday.

The police said shortly before 4 p.m., gunmen went into the area and opened fire hitting several persons.

One year old Reginald Williams and Nardo Brooks, 23, were killed during that incident.

The infant’s mother and a 24 year old man were also injured in the attack.

Several hours later, gunmen reportedly struck again.

Deputy Superintendent in charge of Crime, McArthur Sutherland said around 11 p.m. last night, a group of gunmen kicked off the door to a house and shot four persons.

He said two of the persons died. Their names have still not been released.

According to DSP Sutherland, the gunmen also set fire to the house, which was significantly damaged.

There has been a flare up of violent activities in the August Town community in recent weeks.

DSP Sutherland said although the police have been maintaining a strong presence in the area, the gunmen have still been finding ways to terrorise the community.
