Government to set up major economic zone

Mr. Samuda said he wants to establish a major economic zone on 500 acres of land at Ferry, off the Mandela Highway.



He said the Caymanas Multi-Purpose Industrial Park would house numerous industries and clusters.



The commerce minister said the government is moving to have the area appropriately zoned and has been in consultations with the relevant stakeholders to secure the necessary permits and approvals.



Mr. Samuda said the Montego Bay Free Zone is to be packaged and sold.



He said this is part of plans to dispose of all uneconomical properties owned by the Factories Corporation of Jamaica.
