St. Ann water woes
Residents of several communities in North East St. Ann are appealing to the National Water Commission (NWC) to address a severe water shortage affecting their communities.
The affected communities include Beecher Town, Colgate, Dunnsville, Davis Town Housing Development, Parry Town and Coombs.
The residents said they have been without their regular water supply since March and the situation have become worst within the last month.
Councillor for the Beecher Town division, Ian bell, said although the St. Ann Parish Council and the NWC have been trucking water, this is not done on a regular basis.
Mr. Bell said the residents are faced with great hardship and that the situation must be addressed speedily.
Communication Manager at NWC, Charles Buchanan, said the water company is faced with a challenge in providing water to some areas in St. Ann.
He said water shortage in some areas is as a result of an inadequate water source, which sometimes results in some residents, who live at high elevation or far away from the main water source being affected.
Mr. Buchanan said NWC is constantly working and looking at new ways in which the problem can be corrected.
