Rockfort residents protest

The East Kingston police are continuing their patrols in Rockfort, St Andrew after residents used burning debris to block a section of Windward Road this morning.



The residents are protesting the shooting death by the police of a resident of the community Romeo ‘Sanchez’ Lyons, 19.



They are claiming that Lyons was killed in cold blood.



The police said he was shot after he fired at members of a patrol team with a high powered weapon.



Superintendent in charge of the East Kingston Division, Assan Thompson, said the residents are also upset about the drive by members of the police force to rid the community of illegal firearms.



The police are advising motorists to use the designated alternative routes.
