Security minister addresses police extra work
National Security Minister, Colonel Trevor Macmillan, said police personnel should be allowed to receive payment for certain types of work done outside of the force.
He said at present, police personnel are often required to provide security service to private entities for which they are not paid.
The national security minister said he would be discussing the issue with government to see how best a transparent program can be implemented, which will allow police personnel to be involved in certain types of jobs outside of the force.
Colonel MacMillan said he would be doing everything to ensure that the working conditions of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force are significantly improved.
He said he is aware of the unsatisfactory condition under which some police personnel have to work.
He was addressing members of the police federation on the opening day of their 65th annual conference in Trelwany yesterday.
