Torrential rainfall last night left several roadways in Portland inundated, forcing dozens of motorists to use alternative routes to get to their destinations.

Mayor of Port Antonio, Floyd Patterson said Folly road, Bryans Bay, West Palm Avenue, and Hope Bay are among the roadways that were affected.

Several motor vehicles including taxi’s, and mini vans, were left immobile for more than four hours after their engines were flooded by water, which had risen up to four feet in some instances.

Several grocery shops along West Palm Avenue and Folly road were also inundated, forcing the operators to remove items as the water continued to rise.

The alternative route from West Palm Avenue is through Halls Avenue via Jango Gully road, and at Bryans Bay the route is through Boundbrook Avenue via Rice Pea’s road.
