The Broadcasting Commission said further measures are to be implemented to protect children against unregulated media content.

Executive Director of the commission, Cordel Green, said broadcasters would shortly be prohibited from airing material, which contains inappropriate content even in instances where attempts have been made to eliminate the offensive sections.

Mr. Green said he would also be consulting with Jamaican broadcasters in relation to other revised broadcasting regulations, which are to be implemented shortly.

He is also again calling for parents to play a more active role in determining the kind of material their children are exposed to.

Mr. Green said the Broadcasting Commission is now in the final stages of a pilot project aimed at introducing media literacy in schools.

He said the Education Ministry, the Joint Board of Teacher Education and the United Nations Educational are undertaking this initiative.
