For the first time in almost a year opposition leader Portia Simpson Miller is leading Prime Minister, Bruce Golding in favourability rating, according to the latest Gleaner commissioned poll.
The Bill Johnson poll was conducted on May 31 and June 1 in 84 communities with 1,008 respondents.
The poll also showed that Golding is still perceived by many Jamaican\'s as the best leader for the country at this time.
The poll has Simpson Miller enjoying an approval rating four percentage points above Golding.
Johnson’s poll shows the PNP president with a favourability rating of 52%, 11% more than the 39% she had shortly after her ascendancy to the presidency.
According to the data Golding has maintained a nine percentage point lead over Simpson Miller as the person who Jamaicans say is best able to run the country at this time.
The polls show Golding with 42% support when Jamaicans were asked which of the two leaders would do a better job of running the country.
This was an almost unchanged position from the 41% who gave Golding the nod when the poll was conducted last November.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
Meanwhile, Political Analyst Kevin O’Brien Chang said \"the poll results should be good news for both party leaders who face the prospect of an early election.\"
