The State Minister with responsibility for Local Government, Robert Montague said the local government ministry has embarked on a training programme for all councillors, mayors and other parish council officers.

Speaking in the sectoral debate yesterday, Mr. Montague said the training sessions would help to improve the service provided at the local level.

He said phase one of the training for councillors has been completed and that training is ongoing for mayors and other officers.

Mr. Montague said training sessions would also be held for the chairpersons of the parish development committee.

He said as of July, each Parish council would be expected to have its own parish public accounts committee in place.
