Transport minister to answer JUTC allegations

Transport Minister, Mike Henry is today expected to respond to a newspaper report regarding impropriety at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC).



Mr. Henry met with the board of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) yesterday, to discuss the allegations published in this week’s edition of the Sunday Herald.



The article claimed that former JUTC chairman, Douglas Chambers had awarded several questionable contracts.



Claimed that millions of dollars in contracts were handed out to well known politically connected gangs in Spanish Town under Mr. Chambers’ leadership.



The article also claimed that an untendered contract was approved for a company to which Mr. Chambers was a major player.



Board member, Bindley Sangster, said the transport minister is expected to issue a statement on the matter today.



Mr. Sangster said funeral arrangements for Mr. Chambers was also discussed.
