Former head of the St. Catherine North police Superintendent Harry ‘Bungles’ Daley was this afternoon offered bail in the sum of $1 million with surety, when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

Superintendent Daley has been charged with six counts of extortion and six counts of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown ordered that the Superintendent Daley report to the Police Commissioner’s office three times a week.

The magistrate also placed the senior cop under curfew.

Superintendent Daley must be at his house in Ebony Vale, St. Catherine between 7 p.m. and

7 a.m.

He is to return to court on September 10.

Resident Magistrate Brown said in offering bail he considered the fact that Superintendent Daley is a senior member of the police force.

Superintendent Daley was arrested last Thursday, during a sting operation in downtown Kingston, which was set up the Anti Corruption Branch.

The prosecution is alleging that Superintendent Daley collected approximately $65,000 from the operator of a plaza in St. Catherine.

The money was to offer protection for the plaza.

The prosecution is also alleging that the money was being paid in installments since May last year.

According to the prosecution, there is video and audio evidence against Superintendent Daley.

Yesterday, the prosecution objected to bail for the cop stating that he is a flight risk.

The prosecution also contended that he if he is offered bail, he would interfere with the witnesses in the case.

Superintendent Daley’s attorney, Valrie Neita Robertson argued in court that there was no basis on which her client should be kept in custody.

Since the start of this year, more than 50 members of the force have been charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

Superintendent Daley is the first senior police officer to be charged with corruption since the clampdown started.
