Councillor seeks soldiers help

A call has been made for the Minister of National Security Colonel Trevor McMillan to deploy soldiers to help with crime fighting in Manchester.

Councillor for the Mandeville Division, Sally Porteous, is making the call.

According to councillor Porteous, the once relatively quiet parish has seen a significant increase in crime, particularly murder.

Reinforcing her call for the deployment of soldiers, councillor Porteous said that nine persons were brutally killed in Mandeville in less than two weeks.

She said that her call is not meant to discount the effort of the police, but that it is clear they cannot do the job on their own.

Acting Superintendent of police for Manchester, Ryland Salmon, said police high command is assisting Manchester to solve the drugs and gun crimes.

He added that so far the help is working as some arrests have been made.
