No permit for Air One
Air One Ventures Limited, the low cost airline, which is to start servicing the region by next year, said it has not received the required permit from the government to operate in Jamaica.
The airline will reportedly be introducing fares as low as 70 percent cheaper than other carriers, and will service nine regional and United States destinations.
Chairman of the airline, Ian Burns, said the Civil Aviation Authority and the Transport Ministry has not accepted the airline’s proposal to offer services to Jamaica.
According to Mr. Burns, the introduction of the low budget carrier will not cost the Jamaican government.
There have been concerns that the new airline would pose competition to Air Jamaica.
Air One is scheduled to start servicing the region by April.
The head of the board of the Air Jamaica, Shirley Williams has reported that Air Jamaica will be affected by the introduction of the low cost carrier.
