Welcome home celebrations for athletes

The committee set up by the Prime Minister to organise welcome home celebrations for the country’s Olympians is expected to meet today to finalise plans.

Initial proposals were made at the committee’s first meeting last Thursday.

Mr. Golding said the public would be informed as soon as these arrangements are finalised.

According to him, the Jamaican people must be given the opportunity to celebrate with the athletes.

However, the celebrations will not get underway until all the athletes arrive in Jamaica, as several of them will be participating in follow-up track meets in various parts of the world.

The local-based members of the Olympic squad are expected to return to the island this evening.

Most of the management team is also scheduled to arrive at that time.
