Stock market close slightly higher
The Jamaica stock market closed slightly higher Monday at 730.77 points or 0.78 per cent above the opening value in another light day of trading.
Just under a million units, valued at J$12.93 million, were traded on the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
The main market index advanced to 92,559.21 points, an increase of 0.83 per cent or 760.85 points after 0.8 million units were traded.
With 175,855 units trading on the junior market, that index lost 3.34 points, closing at 624.41 points, 0.53 per cent below the opening position of 627.75 points.
National Commercial Bank Limited was the most active stock, trading 204,206 units and closing at J$26.97 or 47 cents above the opening price. This comprised 20.57 per cent of trades during the session.
Next active was Cable and Wireless (Jamaica) Limited with 173,756 units (17.50 per cent), followed by General Accident Insurance Company with 126,000 units (12.69 per cent).
Of the 27 stocks traded, 13 advanced, 5 declined and 9 held firm.
The biggest gains were made by Lascelles deMercado and Company which went up $23.54 to $273.55, Cable and Wireless up 1 cent to $0.19, and Jamaica Broilers Group went up by 27 cents to $5.15.
The top three losers were Jamaican Teas, Hardware and Lumber and Lasco Manufacturing.
