Political analyst, Kevin O’Brien Chang believes the People’s National Party will be able to regroup quickly despite resignations following Dr. Peter Phillips’ loss to Portia Simpson Miller on Saturday.

Yesterday PNP caretaker for Western St Thomas Rosemarie Shaw who supported defeated leadership contender Dr. Peter Phillips resigned from her post.

Shaw told The Gleaner that her decision to resign was directly linked to the election result that saw Mrs. Simpson Miller beating Dr Phillips by 373 votes.

Opposition spokesman on local government, Dean Peart, has also resigned from his position.

Mr. Chang believes the party will be able to regroup in time for the next general elections despite the current internal differences. He does not believe there will be mass resignations following Dr. Phillips loss at the weekend:

Mrs Simpson Miller should create a special position for her rival Dr. Phillips he added.

He says this would allow Dr. Phillips to feel like he’s an integral part of the PNP and will help to build unity within the PNP
