Carnal abuse lawyer faces contempt
Attorney-at-law Heather Sutherland who is representing fours boys charged for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl is to appear before the courts today.
Acting Supreme Court Judge Bertram Morrison ordered that Ms. Sutherland appear before the court today at 10:00 a.m. to show why she should not be cited for contempt of court.
This after she did not appear in a case in which the teenage boys were to be sentenced for carnal abuse.
The judge said there was no communication from Ms. Sutherland explaining her absence.
Meanwhile the boys are to return to court on October 24 for sentencing.
They plead guilty to carnal abuse last month in the Home Circuit Court.
Yesterday in court, the Director of Public Prosecution Paula Llewellyn dismissed reports that an 11-year-old boy was among those charged.
Ms. Llewellyn said three of the boys were 13 and one was 14 years old.
She said checks were made regarding their ages before the guilty plea was accepted.
