Newly appointed Director of Elections in Jamaica, Orrette Fisher is to observe tomorrow’s presidential elections in the United States. Fisher’s appointment as director of election took effect on Saturday.

He had been acting in the position since the resignation of Danville Walker in May. Fisher has been invited by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems to be a participant in the US election programme.

He will be based in Washington DC during the observation exercise. This is Fisher’s first official assignment as Director of Elections.

Fisher says in addition to his interest in the outcome of the elections, he will use the opportunity to look at the US electoral system to determine what he can learn from the process.

He’s of the view that the evaluation of the effective use of technology by the US will be of great interest to Jamaica.
