The Opposition is once again raising concerns over the state of the country’s economy.

The People’s National Party says it notes with deep concern, the negative assessments of Jamaica’s economic prospects by the two main rating agencies, Standard and Poors and Moody’s.

The PNP says these agencies are well respected and their negative assessments could affect the country, especially as creditors are becoming increasingly wary given the current economic climate.

It says there is need for decisiveness on the part of the government in addressing the current economic challenges.

The PNP adds that the country is currently facing several challenges such as rising crime and severe weather conditions and that the country’s main exports are facing difficulties.

According to the opposition, even with these challenges, the country has heard nothing of substance from the Government to indicate a grasp of the challenges.

The PNP says the assessments by the rating agencies are clear warning that time is running out.
