Men on trafficking charges sentenced

The two men who yesterday pleaded guilty to trafficking in persons have each been given a reduced sentence of one year imprisonment at hard labour.

They are 52 year old woodcrafter Agon Stephens, and 54year old businessman and taxi operator Narcot Graham, both of Kingston addresses.

In passing the sentence, Justice Horace Marsh told the court that the men had already been behind bars for nine-months.

He said that the fact that they pleaded guilty influenced his decision for the reduced sentence.

The maximum prison time for the charge is 10 years.

The court was told that the men attempted to get a 14 year old girl involved in prostitution.

In May 2006, the men planned with an undercover policeman for him to have sexual intercourse with the girl for US400.

The money was paid to the men and when the police later swooped down on them, they were held with a total of US$400 in their possession.
