Trelawny schools closed

Several schools in Trelawny remain closed following heavy rains yesterday.

They are the Mushette, William Knibb and Holland High Schools.

The Salt Marsh Primary School is also closed.

While there has been no report of rain in the parish since morning, the National Works Agency is advising motorists to avoid travelling on the Wakefield to Hamden roadway.

Communications Manager at the NWA, Steven Shaw, said the water level remains high in that area.

He said the other roads should be open for use.

The NWA said the Graham Close roadway in St. Andrew would be closed until further notice.

It said continued usage of the roadway is unsafe for motorists near to the site of a retaining wall, which is being constructed at a breakaway along the thoroughfare.

The roadway was reportedly damaged during the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav in August.

The agency said continuous rainfall during the last two days has resulted in a further deterioration and erosion along the corridor.
