Mother dumps baby in pit toilet

A Portland woman has been arrested for allegedly dumping her newborn baby in a pit toilet in the community of Wayne Road.



The Port Antonio Police say neighbours called them to the house because they were suspicious about the baby’s persistent crying.



However, when they reached the house, the baby had already died.



The body was removed from the abandoned toilet and taken to the morgue, while the woman was arrested and taken to the Castle police station.



An autopsy is also schedule for next week to determine the cause of the infant’s death.



The police said the woman gave birth at her home between Wednesday night and yesterday morning.
