Opposition member resigns

A rift within the main opposition People’s National Congress/Reform, in Guyana has led to the resignation of one of the party’s executive member.



Vincent Alexander resigned at the height of internal political wrangling over the direction in which the opposition party should be headed.



Last Wednesday, the Opposition leader Robert Corbin wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran instructing him to declare vacant the parliamentary seat held by one of its members - James Mc Allister.



But the move was rejected by the Alexander faction, which has responded with a call for Corbin to step down from the leadership of the party.
