JUTC probe questioned
A report from the board of directors at the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, has suggested that the Contractor General, Greg Christie was not as thorough as he should have been in a probe at the bus entity.
The JUTC directors report was tabled in the parliament today.
In their report, the directors said the Contractor General was incorrect in his assertions following his probe into the award of some JUTC contracts.
The board referred to several meetings of the JUTC’s finance and procurement committee although the Contractor General said it met only once.
The board members said the Contractor General could have made himself aware of the other meetings.
The board members also said acting JUTC President, Bindley Sangster only signed the company’s quarterly contract awards report because the Company Chairman, Douglas Chambers was killed and Vice President Wayne Smith had resigned.
The Contractor General had uncovered widespread procurement breaches in his probe into some JUTC contracts.
Mr Christie also concluded that Sangster had willfully misled his office when he said the JUTC’s finance and procurement committee had approved contracts awarded to Simber productions.
The JUTC chairman was a major shareholder in the company.
He did not tell the board about the $1 .8 million dollar contracts until after they were signed.
