Windward road clinic protest
Normalcy is expected to be returned to the Windward Road Health Centre in Kingston tomorrow following a protest by workers earlier today.
The employees stopped working this morning in protest against an attack on some of their colleagues by gunmen on Monday night.
The health workers want the government to put proper security measures in place.
They claim the premises are extremely dark at night and they want the health ministry to move speedily to install proper lighting there.
A meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow morning with representatives from the health ministry and the workers.
The parties will be seeking to come up with measures, which will make the work environment more secure.
The workers say shortly after seven on Monday evening a group of mental health workers were held up by two men armed with guns.
The gunmen demanded the key for one of the workers’ car but she threw it away in bushes.
The thieves reportedly found the key but were unable to start the vehicle because the alarm, which the worker also threw away, was not found.
The police were called in and the men escaped over the perimeter fencing.
