JA policeman jailed
Police constable Dwayne White has been sentenced to ten years\' imprisonment on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, abduction and attempted rape.
White had held a 16-year-old schoolgirl at gunpoint, forced her into his motorcar and attempted to rape her
Acting Supreme Court Judge Martin Gayle sentenced Whyte to a total of 22 years for the offences but, he will only serve ten years because the sentences are to run at the same time.
Whyte was found guilty of the charges last month.
Sentencing was put off until today in the Gun Court.
The Crown led evidence that sometime in 2006, the girl was at a bus stop on Gordon Town Road in St. Andrew.
Whyte pointed a gun at her and ordered her into his motorcar.
Whyte drove to Jacks Hill where he attempted to rape the girl.
She managed to escape from the motorcar and stopped a passing motorist who took her to the police station.
The motorist also wrote down the licence number of the motorcar from which the girl had escaped.
Whyte was subsequently arrested and charged.
Whyte said in his defence that the girl had consented to go to Jacks Hill with him.
He said he did not point a gun at her.
