Ministry meets with Windward Road Health centre re security
Representatives from the health ministry are to meet with employees at the Windward Road Health Centre in Kingston today in an effort to come up with measures, which will make the facility more secure.
The meeting follows a protest by workers yesterday against an attack on some of their colleagues by gunmen Monday night.
The workers have called for the health ministry to move swiftly to improve the security arrangements as well as to install proper lighting on the premises.
Activities at the clinic were disrupted as a result of the protest.
The workers say shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Monday a group of mental health workers were held up by two men armed with guns.
The gunmen demanded the key for one of the workers’ cars but she threw it away in bushes.
The thieves reportedly found the key but were unable to start the vehicle because the alarm system, which the worker also threw away, was not found.
The police were called in and the men escaped over the perimeter fencing.
